2007 Musicians

All of these musicians donated their time and wonderful talent to provide live background music at our quilt show this year.

We appreciate them helping us provide just the right atmosphere

for the quilt show.  Thanks so much!

Paul Wren & Sylvia Marx Bowen

Sylvia Marx Bowen

After a twenty-year hiatus, Sylvia returned to flute playing as a fiftieth year birthday present to herself.  She is a devoted student of Barbara Grenoble with whom she has studied since fourth grade.  A resident of Denver since birth, she has played with the Aurora Symphony for the past six seasons.  Her newest musical adventure is playing with Paul Wren, harpist, at every opportunity available to them.

Paul Wren

Paul Wren studied harp performance at McNeese State University and Louisiana State University, studying with noted harp professor Hye-Yun Chung.  Paul has been a member of several orchestras and has been playing for weddings professionally for over 20 years.  He is currently a member of the Aurora Symphony and is on the board of the Mile High Chapter of the American Harp Society.

You can contact Paul at denverharp@yahoo.com.

                       Marianne Giesler

Marianne, a Colorado Springs native, began playing the flute at age 9.

This year marks her 40th year of playing. She feels fortunate to have studied for 7 of her formative years with Allan Uhles, who was the Director of Music for the Deaf and Blind School in the Springs.

She is a graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School, and attended All-State Band during that time. She decided not to pursue music as a profession, in spite of having had a music scholarship to CSU. Instead, she shares her much beloved avocation with her students and multiple praise teams at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Castle Rock.

Five years ago, she made a leap into studying the french horn. She enjoys playing both instruments immensely, and continues to find their different demands very exciting.

Philip Wilkins

Philip Wilkins is a self-taught guitarist and singer specializing in Western music and cowboy poetry.  He decided at the age of fifteen playing guitar and singing would bring the girls around since he was so shy, and he used his musical gifts to reach out.

His love of horses, Texas, and the cowboy's way of life has brought his focus to singing about these great Americans. He has competed locally, participates in church singing groups, and performs at weddings and other events as opportunities present themselves.

Kyle Hanson

Kyle Hanson, a sophomore at Heritage High School and a student at Forte Academy of Music, began playing the piano at the age of 7.

His love of piano has given him opportunities to perform as a soloist and accompanist at a variety of venues.  Littleton’s Town Hall Arts Center, St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Pinehurst Country Club, Denver Victorian Theatre, Bethany Lutheran Church, and Columbine Country Club to name a few; as well as numerous concerts, recitals and festivals throughout the Denver area.

When Kyle isn’t performing or at school, he’s working at his part-time job at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, in the Cell & Developmental Biology lab or studying languages.
