1st Place- 'The Great White' by Ellen Palmer (Quilt #53) I wanted to learn fabric manipulation so I took the Lace Lover’s class at AAA Creative Sewing Center in Lakewood, CO. I did not learn the fabric manipulation that I wanted but I did learn how to make lace and a lot of different decorative techniques. The “Lace Lovers Dream Quilt” was designed by Gayle Scheihing. I made changes in several of the blocks and this quilt was 2 years in the making. (Ellen)

Machine Quilted 2nd Place-'My Colorado Friends' by Phyllis Stewart(Quilt #77) Twelve 12” quilt blocks were made & exchanged by 12 friends. I took my 12 blocks and added extra blocks and setting pieces to create this quilt which celebrates our beautiful state of Colorado. Then I quilted it on my Bernina sewing machine. (Phyllis)

Machine Quilted - Judge's Choice 'Adventures in Orange via Triadic' by Shylee Ackman (Quilt #94) |
|||
The quilt is based on the book “French Braids” by Jane Hardy Miller. I took the class at Tomorrow’s Heirloom. I chose colors to satisfy a triadic set: orange, green & violet. My plan is to use the quilt for a Heather Thomas color class at Golden Quilt Company, this fall. My first quilt ever sent out for long arm quilting. The oak leaf stitching complements the fall print border using variegated thread. (Shylee) |

Hand Quilted 2nd Place-'Home Sweet Home' by Beverly Wiedeman (Quilt #28)
|
|||
I made the pieced part of this quilt from the books “Kansas to Oregon Quilt Connection” by Lynne Hagmare. I changed the borders and put in my own design with appliquéd side panel. The state flowers from the 3 different states where I’ve lived; the Kansas Sunflower, California Poppy and Colorado Columbine. I added the Flying Geese border and named it “Home Sweet Home” to signify my 3 different home states. (Beverly)

This quilt is a patchie 8 point star quilt on a field of white. The border is pieced and it has been hand quilted by a group of church ladies from South Suburban Christian Church. Most of them are over 75 years of age. (Shirley)

1st Place-'Hibiscus' by Ellen Palmer (Quilt #52)
The beauty of Wholecloth Quilts has always fascinated me. I saw a program with Karen McTavish demonstrating her technique of “McTavishing” and loved it. Now it’s time for me “to jump in and give it a try”. 'Hibiscus' is the result of my first effort “McPalmering”. I am very happy with the results and am planning more wholecloth Quilts. (Ellen)

|||
Small Quilts 2nd Place-'Send in the Clowns' by Carol Waugh (Quilt #1)
Send in the Clowns is an experiment with texture, 3-dimensions and embellishments designed to make you smile. (Carol)
|
|||
Small Quilts 3rd Place-'Fan Dance' by Genevieve Thompson (Quilt #18) |
|||
'Fan Dance' was my first experience with paper foundations. I took a class where I learned to use paper foundations without paper tearing. It was fun and easy but not fast. (Gen)
Small Quilts Judge's Choice 'Fall Wyoming Wind' (Quilt #88) by Carole Fronk |
|||
This quilt was adapted from a pattern published in “Quilters World” magazine. I used foil stamping in addition to appliqué to make and decorate the leaves, yarn Angelina and silk flower petals were used for embellishment. It was fun to change the original pattern. (Carole) |

1st Place-'Ladies Medium' by Ellen Palmer (Quilt #55)
I wanted to do more “McPalmering” and incorporated it into a vest. The quilting was done on white muslin. Fabric was hand-dyed before the vest was cut out and sewed together. Very fun. (Ellen) |
|||
Apparel 2nd Place-'Patchwork of Textures' by Barbara Dean (Quilt #9)
I took a class on textural artistry where I learned how to create most of the textures seen in this jacket. I spent a lot of time mapping out which texture to put where since some of them use a lot of fabric. I was happy to find some yarn with all the colors from the black batik and I used a couching stitch to apply it to the sleeves. My antique desk chair with a cane seat provided the mold for the “bubbled” green fabric on the jacket front. Completed mid 2005. (Barbara)

|||
Apparel 3rd Place-'Peacock in the Sun' by Donna Schneider (Quilt #32) |
|||
(Displayed by Jacque Schneider) This jacket is of fabrics collected to make “something special”. The pattern by Quilt Fashions has circular/flying geese (peacocks) around pieced medallions on front and back and sleeves. All is quilted with gold thread. This quilt was made with green, blue, gold and lavender fabrics. (Donna) |

Judge's Choice & 1st Place 'Tangled in Texture' by Connor Bingham (Quilt #62)
(15 year old Connor, pictured with Cece Paxton, representative from AAA Creative Sewing Center that donated this sewing machine as our 1st prize in the Kids Kwiltz category.) This quilt was made in three months; it is very easy and fun to piece. It gives you lots of room to play with your quilting. That is the reason I entered it, my quilting. There was a lot of room so I taught myself new techniques. I purchased the pattern at Holly’s Cabin Quilts. It is called “All About Me”. It is a lot of fun, I recommend it completely. The quilt was finished June 25, 2007. (Connor) |

Kids Kwiltz 2nd Place-'5th Generation' by Savanah Miller (Quilt #21)
(Savanah is 14 years old) I named this quilt “5th generation” because my mom, my grandmother, two of my great-grandmothers, my great-great grandmother and I all have quilts displayed in this show! I chose the Sweet Sixteen pattern for my quilt. My grandmother and I picked out the fabric together. I started piecing the quilt over the 2006 Thanksgiving school break. I completed it during the summer of 2007 after finishing 8th grade. I machine quilted it myself using my mom’s quilt frame. (Savanah)

Kids Kwiltz 3rd Place-'Tinker Bell Bright & Colorful by Sarah Johnson (Quilt #13)
(We tried to enlarge a block so you could see Tinker Bell in the fabric.) My quilt is designed with Tinker Bell fabric in bright pink, blue, green, yellow and purple. The back is green and purple flannel. (Sarah) 11 year old Sarah Johnson lives in Arizona. |
