Station 20 of the Denver Fire Department is located near 5th & Lowell in Denver,

an area commonly referred to as the Barnum area. 

P.T. Barnum (of the famous Barnum & Bailey Circus) originally owned many acres of land

in this area and even had his own fire station near where this station is currently located. 

He bought the acreage to be used for the wintering grounds of their circus animals. 

Several buildings were built before he realized how cold and snowy it can be in Colorado.

His spacious home still exists a few blocks from the fire station and

is now used as a treatment center for teenagers.

Two other ornate homes across the street from it

currently houses relatives of P.T. Barnum.
